Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) is a standardized tool that will allow us to classify children on the Autism Spectrum. The evaluation will allow us to determine if children demonstrate the traits of being classified as Autistic, PDD-NOS, or Non-Spectrum. We do not want this service to replace the evaluation and diagnosis that children receive with the Developmental Pediatricians. But this evaluation will allow us to classify children so that they will qualify for the additional services they need at an earlier age while they may be waiting for the “official” diagnosis from the Developmental Pediatricians. As research has repeatedly demonstrated, the earlier we start appropriate services for children on the spectrum, the better outcome they will have for a brighter future. This is our main goal here at ECS. The appointment is a 2 part appointment which includes the evaluation, report, and follow up visit with the family to help guide them to get the appropriate services in place with the Early Intervention Services, Educational System, and Private Out-Patient Rehab Services, such as those we offer at ECS. It really is exciting to think we can now give kids a year, if not more, head start while they are on the waiting list for the Developmental Pediatrician.
